A transsternal approach for the surgical treatment of congenital isolated tracheo-esophageal fistula

[Original research] [Surgery]
Gennady Chepurnoy; Mikhail Chepurnoy;

A new access to the congenital isolated tracheoesophageal fistula, consisting in the resection of the handle of the sternum, has been developed to perform an operation to separate the walls of the esophagus and trachea. It allows to reach directly the area of the fistula, expands the surgical field, facilitating the implementation of precision manipulations on the closure of the walls of the trachea and esophagus with the interposition of cervical muscles as a biological pad between the separated organs.
