Surgery nowadays offers a wide range of methods for treating pilonidal disease (PD), each with its characteristics and potential advantages. Despite the achievements in this area, none of the existing approaches can be considered universal or ideal. From 2016 to 2023, 97 children with PD were treated. Patients were divided into two groups: Group 1 – patients with the traditional method of tightly suturing the postoperative wound (n=52), Group 2 – patients operated on using the technique developed by us: suturing the edges of the skin to the bottom of the wound in a checkerboard pattern using laser marking of the surgical field (n=45). In Group 1, complications, including seromas, hematomas, and wound edge divergence, were observed in 38.5 % (20) of patients. In Group 2, complications were recorded reliably (p<0.05) in fewer numbers, in 15.4 % (7) of patients. Additionally, relapses of the disease were statistically lower (p<0.05) in Group II compared to Group I (4.4 % and 26.9 %, respectively). Thus, as a result of using the proposed technique, patients with PD experienced a decrease in relapses and complications compared to the traditional treatment method.
