Our experience of treatment of incisional ventral hernias

Incisional hernia remains a frequent and serious complication of surgery on the abdominal organs, reducing quality of life and ability to work. The recurrence rate after the use of autoplastic methods for closure of defects reaches 54–78 %, which led to the abandonment of this approach. With the use of modern technology closing the defects of the anterior abdominal wall the recurrence rate is below 10 %. At the same time, the continuous search for the best materials and reliable methods of plastic surgery for postoperative ventral hernias leaves the problem unsolved. We present our experience in the treatment and methodology used in the clinic between 2002 and 2016.
