To question of quantitative evaluation of α-SMA expression in a denomyosis

The study was devoted to a comparative assessment of the level of smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) in the «junctional zone» and in the outer myometrium of patients with adenomyosis. Material for the study – uterine samples removed from patients with adenomyosis (47 women). Control material – uterine samples removed from patients with leiomyoma. In the main group, the expression of α-SMA was higher in smooth muscle cells of the outer myometrium than in the same cells of the inner myometrium. When assessing the level of collagen in polychromic micropreparations, stained by Mallory, it turned out that with adenomyosis there is a change in the volume of the extracellular fibrillary component in the «junctional zone», while in the zone of the outer myometrium it does not actually change.
