The aim was to study the features of the retention period depending on the severity of the disease, patient’s age and design of orthodontic appliances.
25 patients aged from 5 to 15 years with various forms of dento-maxillary anomalies and deformities were treated. Among them: the anomaly of the individual teeth was identified in 7 children, mezial and distal occlusion – in 18 children. The study defined period of retention depending on the nature of dental strain, patient’s age and design of the orthodontic appliance. The duration of the retention period in children from 5 to 15 years of age with anomalies of individual teeth was 9–12 months. Retention period in children aged from 5 to 7 years with mezial occlusion was 2,5–3 months, in patients aged from 13 to 15 years – 18–20 months, with distal occlusion – 3–5 months (children at the age of 5–8 years) and 15–18 months (children at the age of 13–15 years).
