Study results smoking prevalence and attitudes towards healthy lifestyles among TB patients

The article presents the results of the survey of prevalence of tobacco use and attitudes towards healthy lifestyles among TB patients.

By means of a questionnaire, consisting of 2 blocks (the first one the patient filled by himself, the second – his doctor) 500 patients of SBMI ST «Regional TB Dispensary» of Stavropol were interviewed. It was found that the percentage of TB patients who adhere to healthy lifestyles, is significantly lower than in the general population, especially among the men. It was determined that medical professionals are the priority source of information about healthy lifestyles for TB patients. It is shown that among patients with tuberculosis smoking is common (more in the male population). However, percentage of those who gave up smoking as a result of tuberculosis is high among them. The authors recommend to consider the findings in the planning of preventive work.
