The status and the components of uteroplacental-fetal blood flow disorders in pregnant women with obesity

The study aimed to investigate the specific features of the platelet structure and function, blood microrheology, and uteroplacental fetal blood flow (UPFBF) impairments in pregnant women with obesity. A total of 118 women were observed, including 84 pregnant women, of which 52 patients had a normal pre-pregnancy body mass, whereas another 32 had Grade I–II obesity. Thirty-four clinically healthy non-pregnant women served as the control group. In all patients, at 30 weeks of gestation, the structure (based on the morphological indices) and function (based on the aggregation capacity) of platelets, blood microrheology, and the UPFBF status were studied. Pregnant women with obesity were found to have a morphofunctional platelet imbalance and microvascular changes as factors contributing to UPFBF impairments, all this meaning a risk of developinv obstetric and perinatal complications, and requiring timely correction.
