The predictors of central nervous system damage in newborns with asphyxia

Marina Sergeevna Panova; Alexandra Sergeevna Panchenko; Viktor Andreevich Mudrov;

The clinical and biochemical study of 50 full-term newborns who had suffered asphyxia during labor was carried out. The control group consisted of 91 newborns without asphyxia. It was determined that the children with symptoms of hypoxic brain damage with the history of asphyxia had high concentrations of interleukins (IL): IL-1β, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). Taking into account the results obtained, the diagnostic model of the development of hypoxic brain damage was formed, based on the significance of cytokines included in the equation of binary logistic regression. The sensitivity of the model is 0.68, the specificity is 0.84. Thus, the results obtained should be used to confirm hypoxic brain damage in fullterm newborn infants, in order to prevent the development of neurological disorders.
