Depression symptoms after comprehensive treatment with general magnetotherapy

[Psychiatry]
Ivan Nikolaevich Bakhmutsky; Viktor G. Kosenko; Nikolay Georgievich Bakhmutsky;

The work compared the effectiveness of the depression treatment in two formed groups of 103 patients (control – 50, main – 53 patients). For comparison, treatment with antidepressants alone was used in the control group, and antidepressants were combined with general magnetotherapy in the main group. The effectiveness of treatment after four weeks was assessed by the severity of depression using the Hamilton scale (HDRS). In the group where magnetotherapy was used in treatment, there were significantly more patients who achieved remission (on the Hamilton scale ≤7 points) than in the group where treatment was carried out only with antidepressants, with magnetotherapy – 28 patients, without it – 18 patients (p<0.01). In the main group, the symptoms such as «suicidal thoughts» (reduction by 80.65 %), «early insomnia» by 70.91%, late insomnia by 72.50 %, as well as anxiety and lethargy. Therapy of depression with antidepressants in combination with general magnetotherapy is well tolerated by patients, there are no undesirable side effects, and high efficiency allows us to recommend this method of treatment for use in the clinic.
