The work aimed at studying proteins of the acute phase of inflammation, viewing the said proteins as prognostic criteria for possible postoperative intra-abdominal adhesions on Days 3 and 7 after appendectomy in 50 patients. The protein composition of fragments of excised intra-abdominal adhesions was examined by capillary electrophoresis. Most of the signals were found to correspond to serum amyloid A, C-reactive protein, and lipopolysaccharide-binding protein. In 42.0 % of patients with intra-abdominal adhesions, 72 hours after surgery, a pronounced increase in the preoperative parameters of the studied proteins was observed with a further tendency to increase by the end of Week 1. Patients without abdominal adhesions were found to have a slight increase in the levels of the studied proteins with their further normalization. In view of the above, the inclusion of these markers in the protocols for studying surgical patients allows forming groups of patients who need anti-adhesion therapy, which might reduce significantly the risk of developing an adhesive process in the abdominal cavity.
