The aim of the study was to assess the prevalence of hyperuricemia (HU) in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and the prognostic value of uric acid (UA) levels in relation to the risk of arrhythmia recurrence after radiofrequency ablation (RFA). The study included two phases. At the first stage, a retrospective analysis of the medical documentation of 750 patients with various forms of AF who were treated at the Regional Clinical Cardiology Dispensary in Stavropol from 2019 to 2024 was carried out. The level of UA, xanthine oxidase activity, EchoCG data were analyzed. In the second stage, 110 patients with AF after RFA were evaluated for the effect of UA level on the risk of arrhythmia relapses within 12 months. Elevated uric acid levels were diagnosed in 22.5 % of AF sufferers. Patients with persistent and persistent forms had significantly higher UA levels than paroxysmal (p=0.035). Hypertension and obesity were reported in 59 % of AF patients with hyperuricemia. There was a correlation between blood UA and left atrial volume index (r=0.784; p=0.002). In the group of patients who experienced AF relapse after RFA, the baseline UA level was 480.3 ± 12.6 μmol/L, which is significantly higher than the similar values (330.7 ± 10.1 μmol/L) in patients without arrhythmia relapse (p=0.008). In 54.2 % of the examined, increased activity of the xanthine oxidase enzyme was found. HU is a common condition in patients with AF associated with cardiac remodeling and an increased risk of arrhythmia recurrence after RFA.
