A total of 172 young individuals were examined at a Health and Anti-Aging Medicine Center, including 66 males and 106 females. All participants underwent assessment of major cardiovascular risk factors using a structured questionnaire, anthropometric examination with calculation of body mass index (BMI), and evaluation of metabolic status. Body weight categories were determined with consideration of sex-specific criteria. The metabolic status was assessed by lipid profile and capillary blood glucose levels.
It was found that the frequency of metabolic status disorders increased with increasing BM, while the severity and nature of the detected changes had gender differences. In girls, overweight and obesity were accompanied by an increase in the prevalence of dyslipidemia, an increase in the coefficient of atherogenicity and the formation of atherogenic combinations of lipid disorders. Similar changes in young men are statistically insignificant. In girls, the presence of links between BMI and lipid profile indicators was revealed, while in boys there were no correlations. Hyperglycemia was observed in individuals of both sexes in almost all BM variants, demonstrating the absence of dependence on BMI. The proportion of people with normal metabolic status decreased as the BM increased. However, with normal and insufficient BM, a significant prevalence of metabolic disorders remained. Thus, an increase in BM in young people is mainly associated with lipid metabolism disorders and is characterized by gender specificity.
