Pain point and associated physical sign of chiatal hernias

[Internal diseases]
Andrey Aleksandrovich Garanin;

The article describes and substantiates a new physical symptom determined in patients with the esophageal orifice hernia of the diaphragm and a pain point the topographically associated with it. The 117 patients with suspected hiatal hernia were examined, 101 of them were diagnosed with it using our method. The essence of the symptom is the detection of soreness/ hyperesthesia, which increases with pressure/pinch irritation of the skin at a point, that located on the border of the medial and middle thirds on a horizontal line drawn from the tip of the xiphoid process of the sternum to the edge of the left costal arch. The proposed method of physical diagnosis of hiatal hernia has shown its high diagnostic effectiveness and can be used as a technique for detecting diaphragmatic hernias in the practice of clinicians.
