Forensic medical diagnosis in children with cerebral palsy

[Pediatrics]
Margarita Berlay; Anatolii Kopylov; Sergei Karpov; Evgeniya Viktorovna Kolesnikova;

Often, the death of children with cerebral palsy occurs outside the hospital, which dictates the need for a forensic autopsy. A retrospective analysis of 25 forensic medical examinations in cases of death of children aged 1 to 14 years with a cerebral palsy for the period from 2017 to 2020 was carried out. In all cases, the children had no injuries. Characteristic macro- and microscopic changes in the brain have been established, which are manifested by a complex of atrophic, dystrophic and sclerotic changes. The presence of hydrocephalus and changes in the periventricular region cause the formation of the most severe clinical forms of cerebral palsy, such as spastic tetraparesis, spastic-hyperkinetic and hyperkinetic forms.
