Pouch colon in children

[Reviews]
Evgeniia Pimenova; Grigory Korolev; Alexandra Zagrebina;

Pouch colon is rare type of anorectal malformations with pouch-like dilatation of a shortened colon. Patients usually have only proximal segment of colon. Absence of the rectum is often, however there is term «rectal pouch» in Russian classification. The information in the paper dedicated embryology, histology, classification, diagnosis and treatment of patients with pouch colon. Some children after surgery show malabsorption, diarrhea, stool retention, fecal incontinence or pseudoincontinence. The paper could be useful for pediatric surgeons in prevention of intraoperative misunderstanding and creating the optimal surgical strategy. It could by interesting for pediatricians and family doctors for treatment patients with poor functional results after surgery.
