Значение мелатонина для физиологии и патологии глаза

Мелатонин, основной гормон мозговой железы эпифиза, широко представлен во всех структурах глаза, и прежде всего в сетчатке. Здесь же определяется и высокая плотность специфических мелатониновых рецепторов. С привлечением современных литературных сведений в обзоре обсуждается роль эпифизарного гормона в физиологии и патологии зрительного анализатора, а также перспективы использования его лечебных возможностей в офтальмологии.
