Biochemical markers of kidney damage in elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

In 87 patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) particularities of clinical-functional status, basic biochemical markers of systemic inflammation and their influence on the development of chronic kidney disease are studied. Chronic kidney disease was first diagnosed in 47.1% patients with COPD. It was found that severe course of COPD is accompanied by higher levels of inflammation markers. Comorbidity of COPD in respect to renal pathology with the development of CRF leads to significantly higher levels of CRP and TNF-α in the blood. The direct dependence of TNF-α and fibrinogen on the severity of chronic renal failure has been established. The indicators of TNF-α and CRP can serve as additional markers of impaired renal function in COPD.
