Levels of sex hormones, steroid-binding protein and prolactin were studied by the solid-phase ELISA in intact ovarian tissues of 25 patients with cervical cancer (T1b-2aN0M0), mean age 53.4±3.2 y. o. depending on the presence of the HPV/Сh. tr. co-infection. Intact ovarian tissue without infection was obtained from 22 patients of similar age controls) during uterine extirpation for T1N0M0 endometrial cancer. HPV presence was detected by E7 protein expression, Ch. tr. – by IgG and IgА to Ch. tr. and antigen/DNA by the ELISA and PCR methods. Intact ovarian tissues of patients with cervical cancer were characterized by reduced levels of estradiol and progesterone and an increased estrone level, as well as by a high androgenic potential and a significant escalation of prolactin concentration. The data demonstrate that malignant process in the cervix on the background of HPV/Сh. tr. infection is accompanied by the hormonal profile imbalance in the tissue of the intact ovary. The results confirm the role of the infection as a trigger of the increased proliferation, malignancy in target organs for sex hormones.
