The incidence mortality rate of stroke among men and women had been studied in Stavropol city during 2009– 2014 years. The research was performed as population-based register with an application of MONICA international study (1985–1995) protocol. During 2009–2014 an estimation of acute stroke cases (28 days from symptoms onset) in the Promyshlenniy district of Stavropol city was provided.

Results. Population studied consisted of 123 621 people on average, taking into account annual migration rate. Within the 2009–2014 period 1206 cases of stroke (639 – male, 567 – female) were registered. Stroke incidence among men in 2009 was 2.81 per 1000 of population, in 2014 – 1,06. Stroke incidence among women was 1.41 and 0.51 in 2009 and 2014 respectively. Stroke mortality also demonstrated a downward trend among both men and women during the period of study. Furthermore, we observed a decline in ischemic, haemorrhagic stroke, subarachnoid haemorrhage and unspecified stroke (haemorrhagic or ischaemic) within 25–74 age group. In the population age group over 75 years there was a drop in ischemic and unspecified stroke incidence. Moreover, mean age of first stroke increased from 72.5 to 75.9 years.

The data obtained are the indicators of effectiveness of measures to improve the care of patients with stroke.
