Lactoferrin oral liquid as a marker activity dental caries in pregnant women

The study included 35 pregnant women suffering from dental caries (clinical group); 31 patients with normal pregnancy and without dental pathology were included in the control group. Laboratory test data of oral fluid for the content of lactoferrin and C-reactive protein of 32 female donors with no pregnancy were taken for the norm. All subjects were aged 18 to 30 years. The concentration of lactoferrin and C-reactive was determined by ELISA.
In the patients of the clinical group lactoferrin content of the fluid from the oral cavity was higher than that of the donors and successively raised from I to II and III trimesters in the absence of C-reactive protein dynamics, which characterizes the increase of the oral cavity antimicrobial protection.
During gestation, for assessment of antimicrobial protection of the oral cavity, it is recommended the use noninvasive method of determining of lactoferrin concentration in the saliva.
