An increase in proinflammatory interleukins plays a critical role in glaucoma neurodegeneration. In a prospective «case-control» study, TNFα, IL1β, IL10 were determined in the lacrimal fluid of 56 patients (107 eyes) with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and 30 patients (42 eyes) of the comparison group by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method. An increase in the content of TNFα – 94 was revealed [45; 165] pg/ml and IL1β – 4.30 [1.85; 6.70] pkg/l in tear fluid samples of patients with POAG. A decrease in the thickness of the retinal nerve fiber layer moderately correlated with an increase in the content of TNFα (r= 0.48, p=0.0001) and IL1β (r=–0.36, p=0.0001). An increase in the risk of developing glaucoma was found in patients with TNFα values exceeding 165 pg/ml (OR=7.09, CI=1.61–3.27), p=0.004.
