A multicenter prospective controlled research has been done, the results revealed correlations between the effectiveness of two methods of treating chronic generalized periodontitis of varying severity with the number of manipulations performed, the duration of treatment, and the frequency of relapses after the end of therapy. In addition to the standard treatment, the patients of the main group received the introduction of microspheres of minocycline hydrochloride into the periodontal pockets, and the patients in the control group received the application of adhesive dental films with lincomycin and metronidazole. Evaluation of periodontal indices showed a significant effectiveness of the both methods of treatment for any level of periodontitis severity. The addition of minocycline made it possible to improve the results of therapy in the early stages of evaluation only in mild chronic generalized periodontitis. Evaluation of the delayed effects of therapy during one year of follow-up showed a 2.8-fold reduction in the frequency of relapses in the group with the additional use of minocycline hydrochloride microspheres in patients with any severity of chronic generalized periodontitis. Since the number of procedures performed, the duration of treatment, the probability of recurrence in patients from the main group was significantly less, the use of the depot form of the drug is of significant economic importance.
