ZBTB17 gene polymorphism in patients with chronic heart failure combined with type 2 diabetes mellitus

[Original research] [Internal diseases]
Elena Vladimirovna Khazova; Olga Vasilyevna Bulashova;

Chronic heart failure (CHF) is a common medical problem, often associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The ZBTB17 gene encodes the zinc finger and the BTB domain of the transcription factor protein 17, expressed in cardiomyocytes and involved in apoptosis. The aim is to study the risk factors and the variants of clinical manifestations of CHF in combination with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) in relation to the rs10927875 polymorphism of the ZBTB17 gene. 129 patients with CHF, including 49 – in combination with type 2 DM. The distribution of genotypes in patients with CHF and CHF in combination with type 2 diabetes were comparable and corresponded to the Hardy – Weinberg equilibrium (χ2=0.06; p=0.807). Patients with CHF in combination with type 2 DM of the CC-genotype compared with the CT genotype were characterized by a higher prevalence of stage C4–C5 chronic kidney disease, a large size of the end systolic size of the left ventricle (p=0.03); patients TT genotype compared with the CT genotype had a greater mass of the left ventricular myocardium (p=0.015).
