The increase in the incidence of diagnosed sleep disorders among young people in recent years is an urgent problem in the education and health care system. The purpose of the study was to determine the presence of sleep disorders and their relationship with other factors, affecting the emotional and physical state of students of medical and technical universities. A questionnaire method with special scales was used for assessing the level of depression and sleep disorders. The 86 young women and men participated in the survey. Sleep duration did not affect daytime sleepiness, sleep quality, and students’ depression levels, while sleep quality was correlated with daytime sleepiness scores. Exercising significantly reduced the level of depression in groups. At the same time, working the night shift negatively affected the level of depression. The differences between the male and female subjects were revealed: women found a relationship between sleep and depression, while in men there was a direct relationship between the use of electronic gadgets before bedtime and the quality of sleep. Sleep quality in both men and women is associated with levels of depression and bad habits. The most negative factor affecting the studied parameters was the lack of sleep hygiene.
