We studied the clinical course features of asthma and the serum adipokine levels in 78 asthma patients depending on the body mass index (BMI). More severe course of asthma and late onset of the disease were observed in overweight and obese patients. We found the direct relationships of the leptin level, L/A index with the risk of uncontrolled asthma in patients with BMI≥25 kg/m2, and the leptin level with the risk of asthma exacerbations in patients with BMI≥30 kg/m2. We developed the prediction formulas to assess the risk of unfavorable course of asthma; their application will provide a personalized approach to the asthma management of overweight and obese patients.
