We examined 117 newborns with early neonatal sepsis (NS) and 42 healthy newborns. Clinical and laboratory examination was carried out, including the determination of procalcitonin (PCT), C-reactive protein (CRP), SAA-protein of the acute phase, presepsin (sD14-ST), interleukin-18.
The earlier response of presepsin was established in comparison with traditional markers of inflammation, exceeding normal values throughout the entire period of therapy in newborns, that allow to recommend it as an early marker of bacterial infection in newborns.
