Pain relief is performed nowadays at the level of primary PC by medical specialists of organizations providing primary health care and specialized medical care, thereby, any specialist is required to have skills of competent diagnosis and treatment of chronic pain. For distance learning, specialists were offered to take an electronic educational course (EEC) «Chronic pain syndrome (CPS) in adult patients requiring palliative care: terms and definitions, diagnosis (according to approved clinical guidelines)», consisting of two interactive educational modules (IEM). Before the beginning and at the end of the course, all students undergo the knowledge assessment procedure. The publication assesses the effectiveness of the first IEM based on the comparison of preliminary and final testing results, as well as analysis of answers to particular test questions. The analyzed group comprised of specialists who have finished the course, answered at least 70 percent of the final test questions correctly. Of the 104 747 persons who intended to take the course, 97 810 (93.4 %) completed it represent all Federal Districts of the Russian Federation, but only 35 215 (36.01 %) specialists that completed training, demonstrated initial satisfactory knowledge before starting the course. The greatest difficulties for the students both before and after completing the course were caused by the terminology and diagnosis of neuropathic pain, the pathogenesis of chronic pain. EEC is recommended for mastering by healthcare professionals in order to improve knowledge and skills in providing palliative care to patients with chronic pain syndrome.
