Rotavirus and norovirus infection in adult

[Infectious diseases]
Olga Lyubeznova; Elena Utenkova;

Authors analyzed the medical records of 96 patients. The first group – 78 patients with rotavirus infection (mean age 47.9±5.8 years), the second – 18 patients with norovirus infection (mean age 49.1±7.8 years). Rotavirus antigen was detected in the feces by ELISA, noroviruses and rotaviruses RNA was detected in the feces. In adults, rotavirus infection occurs mainly in the form of moderate severity (76.9 %) with such lesions of the gastrointestinal tract as gastroenteritis (69 %), catarrhal syndrome (42.3 %) and moderate intoxication. Norovirus infection in adults is a mild illness than rotavirus infection. When the infection was significantly less marked febrile fever, catarrhal syndrome, is less than the duration of intoxication. The findings suggest the relevance of these infections in adults and the inclusion of fecal studies on rotaviruses and noroviruses in patients with intestinal
dysfunction and catarrhal syndrome, taking into account the epidemiological history data.
