Effect of modulation on immunocytes` activity of oncologic patients by biogenic metals` nanoparticles

The aim of the study was to assess the in vitro effects of biogenic metals` nanoparticles (NP Fe, NP Zn) on the activity of cells mediating innate and adaptive immunity in cancer patients. Immunologic methods (immunofluorescent, cytotoxic, ELISA, NBT tests) were used to find out any influence of incubation with NP on functional activity, receptors` expression, production of monokines and lymphokines by blood mononuclear cells in patients with malignant tumors. No obvious injury of T-cells, NK-cells and phagocytes was noted. At the same time stimulation of monocytes` HLA-DR expression and NК-cells` cytotoxicity was observed after incubation with NP Fe, while incubation with both NP Fe and NP Zn induced modulating effect on TNF-α and IL-1α production. Incubation with NP Fe resulted in more active stimulation of phagocytes than incubation with NP Zn. Thus, we found positive in vitro effect of biogenic metals’ nanoparticles on some phenotypic and functional properties of immune cells, i.e. modulation of neutrophils, monocytes and natural killers’ activities.
