The main manifestation of neonatal sepsis was the hemorrhagic syndrome, which was diagnosed in 7 children. Thrombocytopenia of different severity was detected in all cases. Organ pathology was observed in seven cases. Three children suffered from septicemia (one of them developed toxic shock). No patients reported increased body temperature. K. pneumoniae, producing β-lactamase of extended spectrum, was isolated from the blood of six children (60 %). All patients had laboratory evidence of systemic inflammatory reaction. The hemorrhagic syndrome determined the severity of the disease in the majority of cases. Thrombocytopenia is one of the early diagnostic markers of neonatal sepsis caused by Klebsiella.
