The 213 direct anastomoses in children with esophageal atresia had been carried out in the pediatric hospital of RostGMU within a 32-year period (1982–2014). Lethality was 8,9 %. From the 194 survivors suture-line leakage was observed in 4 cases so double esophagostomies according to Bairov were performed. During the long-term follow-up (4–7 years) anastomosis scar strictures were observed in 17 cases (8 %), recanalization of trachea-esophageal fistula in – 3 cases (1,5 %). The last three cases were treated surgically. Children with scar strictures undergone the balloon dilation, which was effective in 16 cases after 1–2 procedures. The method of balloon dilation was described in details.
